# What is Pomodoro technique?

Pomodoro technique is when you study for 30–35 minutes (according to your focus span) and then take a 5–10 min break.
Don’t watch Netflix or TV during this break else it’ll turn to a 30–40 min break
Please note that everyone one’s focus span is different. For example, for me it’s around 1.5 hours, that is, I start to lose my focus after this time and this is my sign to take a quick 15–20 minutes to freshen up!

# A reminder for you:

It’s okay to not follow a schedule every single day and try new things.
If you prefer making schedules, there might be days when you won’t be able to follow it and that’s completely okay. Don’t be so hard on yourself

I know it can sometimes become a challenge to stay alert and focused, especially when drowsiness sets in. Feeling sleepy while studying not only hampers productivity but also affects the retention of information. Fortunately, there are several practical strategies that can help you stay awake and engaged during your study sessions.

In this blog, we will explore seven effective tips to avoid feeling sleepy while studying.

# 1. Get Sufficient Sleep:

One of the primary reasons for feeling sleepy while studying is a lack of proper sleep. Ensure that you are getting enough sleep each night, ideally between 7 to 8 hours. Along with this, create a fixed sleeping pattern, that is, sleeping and waking up at the same time everyday.
Establishing a consistent sleep schedule can significantly improve your energy levels during the day and prevent daytime drowsiness.

How to avoid feeling sleepy while studying


While schools primarily focus on academic subjects, there are some mental habits that are extremely crucial for your overall- development and mental health. Unfortunately you don’t learn about them in school as of now.

# Facing failures

We all face failures. It can be doing poorly in an exam, not making it to the sports team, anything! Sometimes things are not in your hands. What is in your hands is how you respond to it! You can either start feeling sorry for yourself or complain that the whole world is against you, or you can sit and analyse what went wrong.

I am not telling you to completely disregard your emotions. It’s okay and absolutely normal to feel upset, but pick yourself up and get back in the game. Analyse first. Did you make a mistake? If yes, then learn from it. And if it was something completely out of your control, let it go. You can’t change it either ways.

# Comparing yourself

You will find all kinds of people around you. Those who study 10 hours a day, those who study only 2–3 hours but still top all the exams and the list goes on. It doesn’t matter what your peers are doing. The only one you should be concerned with is yourself. Do not compare your day 1 with someone else’s day 100.

No matter if you’re a student or not, you will always find people who are different than you or maybe even doing better than you. Comparing yourself to them won’t get you very far, you will only harm your own mental health. Instead spend that mental strength in trying to improve yourself and understand your shortcomings.

If you see someone successful, get inspired instead of comparing. Learn from them.

# Growth mindset

Cultivating a growth mindset involves believing that intelligence and abilities can be developed through effort and learning. Schools often focus on grades and fixed measures of success, which can inadvertently promote a fixed mindset.

I have always said this- grades aren’t everything. In school we have our whole plan written out for us. we have a fixed syllabus and a fixed goal which mainly is to score good marks. Unfortunately, that is not the case in real life. Often I have seen people struggling to cope post graduating because they lack the right mindset to promote growth.

Teaching students about the power of perseverance, resilience, and the belief in their ability to improve can help them overcome challenges and reach their full potential. Be curious and always look forward to learning new things.

# Emotional intelligence

Understanding and managing emotions is a crucial skill for success in personal and professional life.

Goleman’s EQ theory comprises five core components: empathy, effective communication or social skills, self-awareness, self-regulation, and motivation, which are skills that you require on a daily basis.

Schools generally focus more on academic achievement rather than emotional development, but emotional intelligence is vital for building healthy relationships, resolving conflicts, and achieving overall well-being.

# Time management

Many students struggle with managing their time effectively and staying organised, which can lead to stress and decreased productivity.

As students we need to juggle a lot of things. We have our school, assignments, homework, tuitions, preparing for competitive exams, working out, a social life and sometimes even more!

Do you think it is possible to juggle so many things? The answer is yes! You can! All you need is a good time management techniques- prioritise tasks, set goals, plan and don’t give up.

# Self-esteem

The way we talk to ourselves has a significant impact on our mental health and overall well-being. Schools often don’t address the importance of positive self-talk, which means you need to replace your negative and self-defeating thoughts with empowering ones.

Be proud of the qualities that make you unique. If you think you have some shortcomings, analyse them. Can you do something about those? Can you improve them? If yes, work on it, instead of complaining and if it is something out of your control, why stress about it and ruin your mental health?

If you are proud of yourself and confident, trust me no one can make you feel worthless.
